Ok, so I'm one of those guys that's just really even keel... don't get too excited and don't get too upset about much. Few things meet my expectations and extremely rare for something to exceed my expectations. I read a great review of the SYD 5 and was looking for an iPod speaker. Shopped all the usual suspects, but nothing blew me away. Really, really going out on a limb for me to order a speaker off the internet without hearing it first, in fact started to order it twice and stopped before I finally said, hey it's a 30 day money back guarantee... just order it. My "red" SYD 5 came in yesterday. I plugged it in, attached my iPhone, put on an oldie that I love-- "Another One Bites the Dust"; pushed play and the next thing you know, I was saying "Are you kidding me, you've got to be kidding me. This thing is amazing!!" To say the least I was blown away with the sound. I never expected it to be that damn good. I thought $359 was a pretty good penny to pay when I ordered, but after hearing it, what a bargain!

I am absolutely amazed at the sound quality of those speakers. It is like listening on good quality headphones. I can clearly ear every instruments, from the deep bass to symbals and the piano sounds like I have it just beside me. With most speakers, you have to stand close to them to get the best sound. Those small speakers fill the room. The best part is they cost about the same price as a mid quality amplifier. I'm getting a second pair for my bedroom.

I can recommend it as an ideal stereo for a small apartment - especially when coupled with an Apple Airport Express. It's not audiophile quality but good enough for most listeners, particularly ones that don't want to deal with the typical mess of cables, speakers and amp.

I just wanted to let you know how impressed I am with the SYD5 we purchased for my father as a xmas gift.
The sound quality is really excellent. He loves it. And I was able to convince him to get rid of a broken 5 CD changer, two blown giant speakers and an ancient amplifier, since the SYD5 has RCA input for his HD Radio receiver and mini jack for his XM dock. What a great piece of stereo equipment. As far as I can tell, it's the only iPod stereo on the market with alternate input jacks.
Thanks for getting it to us in time for xmas.

My objective was to find a one piece iPod dock and speaker system with superior sound, and with that in mind I tested everything I could find from the least expensive to the most expensive systems. The Kanto SYD 5 is by far the best sounding, best looking system I found, and that includes systems that cost up to 600 dollars! The 600 dollar system actually sounds tinny compared to the SYD 5! As an added bonus, I love the feature on the remote that allows me to instantly adjust the bass and treble. In fact, when you want to go back to the factory presets, there is even a reset button.
I use the SYD 5 in my huge master bedroom with high ceilings, and the sound is awesome. I have also tried it in the living room, and it sounds like a home stereo system. If you care about how your music sounds, this is the system for you.

Review Excerpt
"As far as the sound performance goes, the iPair5 has a great soundstge with great dynamic range. Great attention is given to the Mids and Highs and the Bass is very tight and responsive. The voice coil has a nice flat sound that makes it great for listing to music with female or male vocals. Because the cone is made of paper the sound is warm and not to bright. Come by and have a listen to these speakers for your self. You really will be amazed at the out put and performace these speakers pack at $399."

We know it's a fantastic product but it's our baby so of course we're biased, but when you read reviews like this it brings a big smile to our collective faces.

Sadly we currently do not have any SYD 5's in stock. We just can't keep these fantastic units on the shelves. As soon as they arrive we sell out again. We'll have a new batch arriving in early December.

I wanted to add however that these speakers amazed me even more when I plugged my Panasonic DVD player to the RCA inputs of the I pair 5. I played Chris Botti cd "Italia" which is also a Lossless file on my Ipod and flipped from Ipod to RCA from the remote on the same song while they played simultaneously...WOW WOW WOW!!! without adding any colourful metaphors on the CD RCA mode these were pure sound! It really showed me how thin the soundstage is with IPods. Although I still love the convenience of Ipod it would really help the I Pair 5 if there were a subwoofer to help with a little low end base as mentioned in my earlier email.
I demoed the Bose Soundock 10 at Best Buy for $679.00...Your product is far, far better than their single speaker system hands down.
Great product, I will recommend these to anyone who is on a budget.

Thank you Richard for answering me so fast.
I didn’t expect to hear from you before tomorrow at the least.
On top of the quality of their products, such a dedicated service is another advantage of dealing with a small, or human sized company if you prefer. You can quote me if you wish.

With mass manufacturing and thousands of products being pumped out every day it can sometimes be difficult to find truly quality products. The demands for new products and gizmo’s are so high that it can be difficult for the few manufacturers that want to make quality products to stand out from the crowed. Kanot AV Systems is one such company and as a journalist I believe it is our duty on sits like this to give quality products a voicing platform. Normally I like to write my intros under the assumption that I have not already tested the products but in this case I have and the theme will be set from the beginning; we love quality products and the Kanto iPort 5 (Syd 5) is no exception. Let’s get into the review and get a better look at this product. Read the full review here...

The Syd 5 is a great sounding, great looking dock that would look great in any living room. This dock I think is ideally suited to staying in one place and would work well in any room as the main source of sound. It can easily fill up a room with sound. Coming in at $360, but then again, it doesn’t look or sound cheap either.

I just purchased the Zed as a speaker system for my mac book. It was a birthday present for myself. I had never heard of Kanto before but the salesman at the Mac store {Matt} steered me towards your product. Can I just say I am absolutely floored by the sound and performance. This is by far the best gift I could have given myself! The sound is just incredible. I still can't believe the sound from such a small and sleek design. I am in heaven. Thank-you for such an outstanding product. Truly fantastic!

After reviewing several dozen iPod speaker systems over the last two years, I’ve discovered that, despite the incredible variety available, very few of them are worth your hard-earned cheese. Once in a long while, though, I hear a system that raises the stakes. The B&W Zeppelin was the first of these, but I’ve recently discovered another favorite called the SYD 5, from an obscure new company called Kanto AV Systems. I’ve spent the last few weeks testing out the iPair 5 and its predecessor, the SYD 5, and I can tell you that both these systems mean business. Read the full review here...

After listening to dozens of iPod speakers and more than a few desktop speaker systems over the last few years, I consider the iPair 5 to be a real eye-and-ear opener. Its excellent sound quality is the biggest selling point, but its size, design, and price are also appealing. In short, I think I’ve found a new reference speaker for use with my iPod— and my PC.
